Recent Advancements Make Fishing Rods a Specialised Tool for Various Fish Species and Conditions



Modern fishing rods have come a long way from the basic stick that was first used around 2000 BC. There are now many types of rods, including spinning, baitcasting, trolling, and fly rods. Advancements and innovations continue to surface as technology develops to make catching fish easier than ever.

But how have our fishing rods changed over time? And what are the most recent advancements that make them ideal for their specific purposes?

History of the Fishing Rod

The first fishing rods were made of hazelwood, likely due to its strength and flexibility. A simple line and hook were attached to the end of a rod usually measuring around 6 feet long. Rods were made by their owners, rather than specialty manufacturers, and did not differ so much for particular fish or purposes.

By the 19th century, fishing rods became more advanced and companies assumed mainstream production. Many materials were used and they varied, depending on what type of fishing the angler pursued.
